What is OpenAIRE?

OpenAIRE is an EU-supported initiative that promotes open access to research outputs across Europe. It collects and indexes publications, datasets, software, and other research results to ensure they are openly available and discoverable. Zenodo was originally created in the OpenAIREplus project, and thus Zenodo have had a tight connection with the OpenAIRE platform since it's inception.

Zenodo indexes records into OpenAIRE to enhance their visibility and accessibility. Importantly, indexing through OpenAIRE ensures that research outputs deposited on Zenodo are made available directly within the European Commission's Participant Portal, fulfilling open-access mandates and improving discoverability for EU-funded research projects.
