Why does my Zenodo DOI not work with system X?

Zenodo registers a a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) for every upload on Zenodo. If you already have a DOI, you must provide the existing DOI during the upload process.

Zenodo registers DOIs via the registration agency DataCite. DataCite is used by many data and scholarly repositories world-wide for registering DOIs to research outputs. Zenodo registers DOIs with a prefix that all starts with "10.5281".

Publishers and journals usually use another registration agency called Crossref. DOIs from both Crossref and DataCite at a basic level works in the same manner, however the metadata registered with the DOI is slightly different between the two.

Providers of third-party systems that use DOIs to fetch metadata thus sometimes only implement support for either Crossref or DataCite both not both thus it may happen that if you provide a Zenodo DOI it is not accepted by the third-party system if it only supports Crossref DOIs. We unfortunately cannot do anything from our Zenodo's, and you'll need to contact the provider to ask if they can support DataCite DOIs.
