A Digital Object Identifier (DOI) is a globally unique persistent identifier for your record. The DOI is important because:
- it provides a permanent link to your upload so readers can always reliably locate your content
- it is important for discovery system to attribute citations correctly
- it enables reliably interlinking research outputs with each other
- it makes your research more discoverable by indexing the DOI metadata in a global registry
By default, Zenodo registers DOIs for all uploads when they are published on Zenodo. You can reserve a DOI in advance of publication, for inclusion in files which you would like to upload to Zenodo.

How to resolve a DOI?
To resolve a DOI, you can either enter the DOI into the search box on the DOI website
Or you can directly resolve it by constructing the following link:
https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.[record ID]
It is incorrect to resolve DOIs by entering them into Google, as the only guaranteed place where it will be indexed is via doi.org. If you would like to learn more about DOIs you can refer to the https://www.doi.org website or the following blog post for more technical details
